On January 28, 1986, 73 seconds into liftoff from Florida’s Kennedy Space Center, NASA’s Space Shuttle ‘Challenger’ exploded in midair and the explosion was visible to everyone on the ground. The following is the Challenger Tape Transcript from the actual Challenger cockpit audio tape recording of what the astronauts actually said after the explosion, and what NASA did not want the public to hear. The U.S. government’s official report to the public has always stated in their public relations briefings to the news media that when the Challenger exploded all 7 U.S. astronauts, and the one U.S. civilian on board, a female school teacher, part of the Teachers In Space program, all 8 were reported by the U.S. government to have died instantly and did not suffer before the Challenger Space Shuttle crashed into the Atlantic Ocean.
However, the following document ‘leaked’ to the public on the internet in 1986 tells a different story regarding the ‘final minutes’ of the Challenger crew before it fell into the ocean off the coast of Florida. The following transcript begins two seconds AFTER NASA’s “official” version ENDS, with astronaut pilot, Michael Smith, saying, “Uh-oh.” Times from the moment of takeoff are shown in minutes and seconds and are approximate. (Note the seconds that lapsed in between some of the pleading, stirring words exhorted by the crew during their final minutes.)The sex of the speaker is indicated by “M” or “F”. (Resnik, noted below, was the only female astronaut on board.)
